THE Vocational SEWING PROGRAM

The Vocational Sewing Program is a one-year intensive career skills program offered to women experiencing deep poverty. It is one of two vocational programs for women in Kigali, Rwanda, and is a sister school to the Dream Beauty Academy. The program began in 2005 with five women trained by Africa New Life’s co-founder, Pastor Florence Mugisha. Today, the program serves 75 women each year.

Monday through Thursday, students attend six hours of sewing class for instruction, practical application, and entrepreneurial training. Friday mornings are spent in worship and discipleship. At the end of the year, women who successfully demonstrate their skills receive a sewing machine and certificate to help with job-hunting. Sewing machines are provided through generous donor support.

Scholarship A Woman’s Education

Classes are offered to women at a nominal charge, and Africa New Life relies on the generosity of scholarship partners to host the program. You can come alongside a woman breaking her family out of the poverty cycle by providing a partial scholarship of $25/month, a half scholarship of $150/month, or a full scholarship of $300/month.

A scholarship helps provide education, spiritual development, equipment, and meals for a woman in the current class. Partners receive photos and updates from the woman they support. Interested in learning more about the current class, or gifting a scholarship? Click the button below.
