Legacy Climbs: Kilimanjaro & Machu Picchu
Mount Kilimanjaro
Teams of Africa New Life friends and supporters will hike their way to the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania in support of Africa New Life’s Food & Care Program. These teams raise vital funds that support Africa New Life’s students and communities with nutritious meals and food packs. It’s our most adventurous and ambitious climb with an incredible impact! The next team Kilimanjaro team will climb the mountain July 6 – July 16, 2025. We are now taking applications for 2026! And, for the first time ever, in June a team of Africa New Life staff and friends will hike the Lares Trail to Machu Picchu in Peru! We are currently taking applications for a 2026 Machu Picchu group. Will you join us?
About the KILIMANJARO CLIMB
- Every few years, Africa New Life sends a team of staff and partners to climb Mount Kilimanjaro as a fundraiser in support of our key programs in Rwanda.
- Climbers spend half the year meeting their teammates, working toward their fundraising goals, and preparing their strength for the trek.
- Then, teams will fly to Tanzania and spend eight days climbing Mount Kilimanjaro, and then have the opportunity to visit Rwanda before returning home from their trip!
Africa New Life partners with Tusker Trail to ensure the safety of the climbers and the trip. They help lead each team in their preparation and training, and during the week of the climb.
About the MACHU PICCHU Climb
- In 2026, for the first time ever, a team of Africa New Life staff and friends will summit Machu Picchu in Peru on behalf of our Food & Care Program in Rwanda!
- Step into history as you embark on an immersive journey through the Peruvian Andes, culminating at the legendary Machu Picchu.
This trek, led by Beyond Adventures, takes you along the breathtaking Lares Route, known for its scenic beauty and cultural richness.
impact
Since the first Kilimanjaro legacy climb in 2017, the funds each team have raised serve Africa New Life’s ministry areas and goals for the future:
Africa New Life’s first Kilimanjaro team in 2017 raised over $300,000 to help build the Dream Medical Center (DMC). Today, the DMC is the second-largest private hospital in Rwanda, providing critical medical care to Rwandans in the Kigali area and beyond.
In 2018, our Kilimanjaro team raised $120,000 to help cover scholarships for Rwandan and East African pastors to attend the newly opened Africa College of Theology.
In 2020, our Kilimanjaro team raised $122,000 for our Food & Care Program. They had no idea how their efforts would be critical to our emergency COVID-19 relief efforts just a couple of months later! These funds helped support our colleagues in Rwanda as they responded to families’ needs during the pandemic and helped sustain our ministry during a fraught year.
In 2023, on the first climb since COVID-19, our Kilimanjaro teams raised more than $160,000 for the Food & Care Program, providing 200,000 school lunches to students in Rwanda!
