PROFILE: NYAGATARE
Nyagatare is located in the northeast corner of Rwanda, sharing a border with Uganda. The land is dominated by low hills and dry valleys. Much of the population lost loved ones in the Rwandan Civil War which tore through the country in 1990. Families in Nyagatare predominately rely upon short-term jobs and subsistence farming, though the region suffers from long droughts that affect crop yields. It is also known for having low education standards due to poverty.
